An Apple a day for business too?
Sales of Apple’s iPad 2 have exceeded expectations, picking up where the last model left off. It’s not surprising, since Apple included three new features to make the iPad even more business friendly.
Great new business features First, it’s more portable at one third thinner and up to 15% lighter than its predecessor. A lighter and thinner model will prove even easier to tuck inside a folio or case and take it on the road. While it’s not meant to be a replacement for a laptop or desktop, it’s big enough to handle most daily tasks that are too big for a smart phone, yet small enough to fit in your bag.
Second, it’s faster. Not just faster than a laptop, it’s faster than the original iPads, too! And the Apple engineers were able to maintain the same 10-hour battery life despite the new graphics engine working significantly faster than the first iPad.
Presentations made easy Third, Apple has given it AV/VGA adapters so the iPad can be connected to an HD TV or a projector. This makes it simple to make presentations. No special software or secret key strokes are needed to make it work. Just plug it in.
Going out to buy one today? Wait! There are some caveats.
Apple still doesn’t support Flash. And they won’t. Period. If that’s a show stopper for you, it’s not going to change any time soon.
Difficult to repair While Apple is renowned for its reliability and toughness, the iPad 2 is a very difficult device to repair. It’s glued together, and most of the internal cables are glued into place. Even the battery is not easily removed. A portable device of this size and shape is more prone to accidents so if you’re hard on your electronics, be careful before you choose the iPad.
